should I tell a lie

I don't get many surveys from panelbase and the last two have both started by asking my occupation but do not have a slot for retired. As i am not a homemaker or (strickly speaking) unemployed I can only answer 'other' and with this answer I get screened out. Surveys from other companies give options for 1. retired or 2. retired on state pension and/or 3.retired on prvate pension. In the last selection I then get asked my occupation before retirement. ( professional)
Should I just give my previous job and thus lie or do I tell the truth and keep getting screened out???

LIE Crusty LIE. You will probably earn more. It does seem that many sites are becoming ageist these days and thus reducing our earnings. So we tell a little fib and knock a few years off our ages, so what, we still give the same answers. We dont change answers because we altered our age. Women have been reducing their ages for donkeys years without any problem so why worry. No offence to women you are all gorgeous no matter what your ages.

I would not advocate lying exactly.....BUT you are not lying if you give your previous job as you are giving your VOCATION.....if it was a job you did for some years, that is what you did.....my husband used to make glasses for Vision Express but has been a homemaker for some twenty years now and he occasionally is called upon to put down his "profession" and he still puts Lab Technician (which is the technical term for what he did!) and is not incorrect....as if he was called upon to do so, he would still know how to make glasses!! Does this make sense?

and thanks for the compliment George.....I don't feel very gorgeous right now :( but thanks for saying so....from the 20 year old in the corner! :)

Yeah, Ruth, know what you mean!! :)

I have been more inclined to the saying 'O what a tangled web we weave when we practice to decieve' but if you think It'll be ok I'll give it a go.On the other hand I also think that although everyone else is doing it, I'm the one thats going to be caught out!!

I would just say you are a homemaker? Why would you not be a homemaker if you are retired????
Surely you look after the home? I am Homemaker, i have grown up children as well who work and are not dependent on me but that is what i do, i do not see where you would be lying?

You are doing surveys? self employed ;) well that's what vivatic says we have to pay tax on what we earn, so it could be classed as employment to others!

You can easily pick and choose.

Thing with lying is that does not give true result, therefore products etc not as we would want.

Like Lizzie says we can only be as honest as we can and thats it, personally i feel its our opinion they are wanting so these things are just for demographics.
Ive been on £9.75 for the last 5/6 weeks with pure profile, and the only 3 surveys they have sent me i have been screened out all 3 times and i know that practically every survey they sent me before that i was ok for, and i have done nothing different as to logging in regularly and checking my profile now and again. So i wouldn't worry too much.

I agree with Lizzie.I'm retiring in March after 42 years working for BT.Just because you then retire doesn't totally change you and therefore exclude you from a lot of surveys. As far as YSP are concernd, I shall be retired, the other survey sites-let's see!

John, HAPPY RETIREMENT!! Does that mean you reach a magical age in March...there are many wonderful people with birthdays in March.....and what age might that be? Are you one of the lucky ones, John, who is able to retire at a reasonable age and not, like me, have to work until you are 67??? :)

ooh, lucky you...I wish I had a choice....I think I will keep doing the lottery, though, just in case I can retire on my terms....which would be just as you are doing, at 60!! :)

Both our customer service champions have got sense of humours and have gave us laughs and fantastic advice over the years, but Janet Spencer seem to have it in for George. I bet wiithout being offensive, no one on this forum has never lied at some point on a survey. Just look at the content by others and you can see other panelists have taken his remarks for what they are, a joke.

Our Customer Service Champion refers to changing your age, as we women do, he does not say lie about all other content. I can not read his comment other than as in jest, especially as he only refers to the way women tell fibs about their age. By the way I am only 21, going on 70 something.
