No Sarcastic Comments
By: 006.5

Less than a week after being told by Charlotte to be careful on what people post in the YSP forum, a member seems to think it is ok to be sarcastic and post a comment about another members husband.
That is bang out of order and uncalled for.
If you have a comment to make about a posting, by all means do so, even if you disagree with the comment, but do not be sarcastic and rude.
This sort of attitude is only bringing the forum down and for the sake of the vast majority of members on the forum, STOP.
I will not hide and I will make sure Charlotte and Katie see this comment. It is wrong.

Not wishing to offend or defend anyone but I have noticed that what is thought as a harmless jest from one person can seem to be an attack or an offence to someone else.Sometimes I will type what I consider to be a wiity reply and then having reread it I'm not sure so i delete it but then I end up saying nothing. As the sense of what we think doesn't always end up the same once we have written it.

You do yourself no justice and only prove that freedom of speech on here does not exist , while I've have not seen said comment I find it very disturbing that someone could assume a high moral stance and 'grass up' other members because they read what 'they' want to read in maybe an innocent or not comment.Customer Service Champions are not YSP's secret police so do what you do best and write about Customer Services, and leave the moderating to the moderators!.

For gawd's sake people give it a rest.......

this is a forum not an episode of Question Time.
Here is my two pennies worth.....

There are no wrong or right answers/comments but think of it like this "everyone doesn't have to get along" - "people can get crossed wires" - as my mum always said to me "there's nothing queerer than folk".
We all live in a civilised world so let's just get on with it...

This forum/community is about survey taking and not about peoples personalities....
I realise freespeech is vital but there are also limitations on what you say - "you wouldn't go up to your mother and say what you really thought of her" - you should know your limits....

If your not happy with the community then leave.... otherwise lets just get on with it....

And obviously now I've put myself on the chopping block for the usual comments both good or bad but that's what a forum is..... go with the flow but you shouldn't upset someone just for upsetting someone....

I'm ready!!!! go for it!!!!

About me: I love surveys! You can't tell from reading any of my posts, though, can you?! I am a full time worker with two children and a full time house husband, are you jealous?
Why I like surveys: They are fun, interesting and lucrative, not to mention the fact that they can lead to amazing things!
By: LizzieAnnDate: 18 Feb 2012 12:55 PM

There is never an excuse for rudeness or sarcasm and I appreciate what George has to say on the subject. I agree that answers and comments can be misconstrued but for goodness sake let's remember we are all on the forum to have fun, be constructive and enjoy ourselves. If we stop enjoying ourselves, yes, Ruth is quite right, go and enjoy yourselves elsewhere at other people's expense.

Oddly, too, I feel that the freedom of speech act was designed for people to stand up for what they believe in so that cuts both ways in terms of being able to say what you think. I think that saying what you think if it is hurtful, sarcastic or rude is not freedom of speech but downright nastiness and should not be considered to be a triumph for freedom!

Incidentally, I am the offended party, and Janet Spencer is the offender. I don't mind saying that I felt very hurt and upset by what she said. Do I make personal and offensive comments about her situation....I simply said I was broke....and if anyone had read any of my other postings they would realize that I was broke because I had £80 taken off me in sick pay last month, not because I didn't send my husband out to work! :(

Thank you all for your support. :)

Ruth you are correct in all you say and people should know their limits, but constant sarcastic remarks at the same person is not on and we have all been told that it is not allowed and breaking forum rules.
Briskem1, freedom of speech does exist and is allowed, however, constant sarcastic and sometimes nasty remarks aimed at one person, are not allowed within the forum.
Correct I am not a YSP secret police, but I do respect that people have opinions that differ, but to constantly pick on one person, that is abuse.
The moderating is left to the moderators, but some people post for all to see then take it off before moderators have read it.
If it was you constantly under attack, I would stand up for you also. I dont discriminate.

I wouldn't mind if I was a horrible nasty person who deserved to be under attack, but I like to think I am here to help, but maybe it is annoying to some people that I help people? Who knows what it is...I know I just don't like it and will not continue to put up with it.

Thank you Leo for coming to my aid. We are the CSCs which does not make us special, different or unique, but we are here to champion the cause of customer services and helping other people with difficulties, we do not expect to be the ones to have to get each other out of difficulties but we want to make the forum a good, positive, fun place to be and for everyone to be enjoying themselves. Is that too much to ask? :(

I was just making an observation, I thought this forum was here for all to share advice, help and useful information, and I sometimes wonder what being broke and ill and anything else in peoples personal lives have to actually do with any of the topics on here. As for commenting on my situation LizzieAnn I do not broadcast anything about my personal life on an open forum. So do NOT think that I am picking on you, I am just exercising my right to free speech which we all have, as you have said it cuts both ways.

The topics on the forums most of the time end up being nothing to do what it was supposed to be about in the first place - and yes Ruth is correct if you aren't happy with the community leave. That's fine, but have you ever considered why they leave? I received a very cutting comment once, I replied back in the same tone, but not offensive. It put me off myself, and this seems to be the problem. Everyone should have an equal share, but what I can see its not.

I think on forums you get friendly with people and naturally want to share and talk about your life. This forum is here for all sorts of reasons and of course we diversify and talk about all sorts of things. It does not exist as a forum just to talk about specific and rigid items. We are all guilty of going off topic, I agree.

I appreciate your comment, Janet, about not picking on anyone, but I really don't think it was a helpful comment at all. Going out to work is not an easy thing to do at all, and really, I was making a throwaway comment, not something I wanted to rectify. In the ordinary course of events I am quite well off, but I was going through a broke spell because of the sick pay problem. I explained that before.

I think we perhaps have overused the right to free speech. Let's put it another way - what we want to do is to share each other's topics and comment in a respectful and reasonable fashion.

I hold up my hand and say I am guilty at talking about personal things which perhaps does not agree with what everyone thinks this forum is for but I do so in answer to other people's solicitousness and thoughtfulness in asking how I am? I do so because I have been asked and I am replying. I have on occasion started topics on the subject of my health but genuinely then I felt that I wanted a little advice on the subject and needed to tell people why I was not around so much as they might have been looking for me.

I would hate to feel I was burdening anyone with comments on my personal life they did not want to hear and I would also hate to think that as fellow forum members and fellow panellists we did not care about each other in any way. We often correspond off forum too, some of us, and so it is kind of like an extension, this forum, sometimes, of that. Don't you think?

George (not CSC) you have brought up an interesting point on how we go off topic, perhaps we should try to stick to the topic we started with...but human nature being what it is we tend to ramble....we all do that.....I do it in conversation! so it is easy to do on forum! :)

By: janet spencerDate: 18 Feb 2012 1:32 PM

Well maybe we should keep the topics less personal and just keep them to what the headings stand for i.e Hot Topics, Help and Advice and Praise and Shame, and then maybe we can all get along and not be accused of being abusive....after all I honestly think that some of the comments I write are maybe what a few of the other members are thinking but just wont say for fear of being accused of the same as myself. Maybe personal life should be kept to personal emailing, then peoples personal lives wouldnt be commented on and no one could be offended by comments made.
I cant understand why going out to work is not an easy thing, as a fair percentage of the country manage to do it without a problem :)

A very good set of constructive suggestions, Janet, that's more like it! :)

At the risk of diversifying into personal comments again, it really was just a throwaway comment and not meant to be open to constructive criticism....simply going through a tough patch financially at the mo, due to sick pay deductions. My husband is much more valuable to me where he is, at home, being a full time house husband and looking after everyone when they are sick and ebay is just for fun. End of story, OK? :)

Thanks Siuzanah for your input on this thread. It is interesting to note that we are all real people....it would be terrible if this forum was run by robots! LOL

I wonder what constitutes a boring monologue briskem1? Topics are interesting because everyone has an entirely different viewpoint and that is what makes life interesting too. Boring is a word I use for NOTHING because it belittles and denigrates things. :(

I have just come across this load of rubbish. Surely everyone has more important things to do with their lives. Please take some advice from a very old and wise old cat and think a little before you write. Life is far too short for continual bickering. Let us confine ourselves to completing surveys and having fun.
Bless you all.
