Virgin Media - the big triple saving con!

I have been in touch with VM today regarding my broadband bill. My bill has a broadband charge on it of £26 for the smallest package, ironically called the large package! I went on to their site to see if I could downgrade it, only to see the same broadband package advertised at £13.50 a month. I phoned them to query this, and was told that I don't get charged £26 for broadband, but in fact I get charged £12 because the saving displayed on my bill for having three services is taken off the broadband charge.
I told the CS bloke that if this was the case, VM had effectively mis-sold me the triple package as they claimed getting the bundle would give me a discount. I also asked him if that meant that I would still get the discount if I removed one of the services, to which his response was "that's debatable".
It appears as though they bump up the service price to compensate for the discount. Formal complaint has been actioned, though I doubt I will get anywhere!

Jo, strongly worded letter alert!! Or email, whichever you prefer, and mention mis-selling in this. It often works, just the threat that you will change over to another company, or decide to take further action (tell them you are considering this, even if you are not, just to get them worried) and I wish you luck. It is scandalous, with the profits these companies make, that they should get away with it.

I am going to phone when the department opens tomorrow and threaten to leave - just an empty threat as I am not allowed a Sky dish as I live in a high rise and the freeview signal in the flats is terrible! I have emailed them, but from past experience I don't expect much. I have already looked into my OFCOM options!

Good for you Jo!! You have to stand up for your rights these days as too often you get trampled on otherwise. Customer service is not what it was, but we are still all good customers who deserve the best and that goes for every one of us!!

Jo, these companies know your position via the postcodes and I am sure they have notes about certain areas informing them of what poor customer service they can give you. Think I am wrong. If you know of anyone in an upmarket area they will tell you these media companies give first class service. They do if your in a wealthy area. The common person gets a crap service. Stick to your guns and give them hell, but if I was you I would email the cheif executive at the following neilberkett@virginmedia.co.uk

Yup, makes sense George, email the Chief Executive and give him hell!! How often, I wonder, does the normal person ever actually get in touch directly with a chief executive to complain?! Bound to have a result!

Emailing a CEO DOES work. Have done this twice - to RBS & to Halifax BS and have had my issues dealt with effectively, & problems resolved after getting nowhere with phoning & visiting branches involved. I received monetary compensation & 2 huge bouquets of flowers also - although that was an added bonus. Both issues were connected as I was trying to effect an ISA transfer from one to the other as POA for my mother. It helped that I had diarised all calls, letters etc.
I would definitely recommend this method - it sure makes them pay attention. It's not something you should have to resort to, but when no one calls you back after promising to do so, or gives their attention to your issues, you are sometimes left with no alternative.

Wow, RESULT, Lynne!!! Amazing to get flowers also...not one but two big bunches. Monetary compensation, of course, is the desired result. Well done and thanks for sharing that with us.

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the info, I am just catching up with it. George thatnks for that email address. I will get on it tomorrow (have spent the last two days filling out crappy forms, it never rains eh?). It is an interesting point you make about postcodes. I had never thought about it before, and it just angers me further because I have every service going with them! Thanks again all x

George - I have tried that email address but my email is being returned and can't be delivered. Do you have another address? I am going hunting just now for an alternative contact as the 5 days they had to respond to me have now passed!

Hey, Jo, maybe his inbox is full of other complaints and that is why it keeps bouncing yours out!!

Will look again Jo but that is the only email address in my directory, which is updated every month. LizzieAnn does have a valid point about the email box being full, or it is set up to reject any emails from anyone other than named people.

Yes, that is possible, George, set up for that very reason....my boss regularly has emails bounced out but he has an average of 950 each time and never deletes anything!! A bit of a hoarder I think, not unlike me!
