Scottish Water

Scottish Water are getting shamed tonight! I feel like I have been constantly posting recently, but I had to share the shambles that is this company. The whole of CUmbernauld has had it's water supply knocked out by a major burst water main. For those who don't know Cumbernauld, it has a population just short of 50,000 at last count.
Anyway, as the water supply is gone they set up several points where we could collect bottled water. I am just back from standing in a queue for 3 and a half hours trying to get said bottles. The organisation was a complete shambles. You would think in an emergency they would be prepared for such things. There were about 200 people standing waiting because the lorries with the water went to the wrong site and unloaded the water SIX times. It was only about three hours into our wait that anyone from the company actually told us what was going on, and eventually a lorry appeared after being led to the site by the police! To make matters worse, they started telling us water in areas was back, and people left to go home only to discover this was not true! They will be getting so many complaints tomorrow!

Absolutely awful for you Jo. I know how big Cumbernauld is and someone I know was there at a funeral yesterday, it was terrible. You should write them a stinking letter - I would.

Oh it is getting worse! We still have no water. I phoned them at 7 am to find out what was happening and where I could get bottled water this morning. I was told there would be no more bottled water deliveries as the water would be back 8-8.30am. Most places do have it back however, it is now 10.20am and my area doesn't! So I am just off the phone with them again and I am now waiting on a manager calling me back because the person I just spoke to tried to tell me there was bottled water where there clearly isn't. I honestly thought a company like this would be better organised.

A letter, Jo, don't take any nonsense from them, that is definitely what is called for - get names, dates, etc., and the least you can expect from them is a credit on your next water bill as you were clearly without water for a certain period of time and no contingency plans were in place when the company said the water would be back on again, and it wasn't. It is your right. Go get 'em girl!

A letter will be in the near future. I also have a local news reporter interested. She is waiting on a response from Scottish Water regarding the situation! We were classed as a high priority home due to my OH health problems. Eventually our water came back on at 2.15pm, and the bottled water arrived about 3.15pm. It arrived despite the fact I phoned them and told them the water was on. So they took nearly 12 hours to deliver water to a high priority household. Not amused! The problem is they kept questioning me because it was only our block of flats with the problem, as a result of a pump needing reset!

So glad you are going to take it further, Jo, these large companies make vast profits and cannot be allowed to get away with the shoddy treatment of Jo Public!! (pun intended!) It is not the way to go when they constantly ask for increased water rates every year....what are you paying for if you don't get the service you ask for when you need it...nothing!

I too am a so called high priority customer with United Utilities as I am disabled and cannot safely walk to collect ny water so they have promised to deliver me bottled water if we ever have a major problem. If we ever do it will be interesting to see if they do as they promised and if not to my satisfaction, they will be telephoned and letters of strong words written as I have that promise in writing so they cannot claim they never agreed to it.

I may have to check this out Lynn and get it in writing also. I dread to think how my OH would cope if I was at uni or whatever when it happened.

Hi FriendlyLynn, Boy do I like your name, just hope your telling the truth and your not nastyLynn (only pulling your leg)
My household is also a "High Priority Customer" but with Northumbria Water. In our household we have 3 diabetics, 2 of us have severe heart problems with restricted mobility and my father has Parkinsons disease in advanced stages. Recently, about 3 months ago I went to fill the kettle to make a brew and nothing came out of the taps. I contacted Northumbria Water to ask what on earth was going on, why had we not been informed of the shut down of water, only to be told they had made mistakes posting the letters and decided to go ahead with the work, which would take 4 days anyway. I told them we were high priority and had no water in the house as we did not have a warning about the stoppage. They apologised and told me that water would be delivered within the hour. 8 hours later still no water. My sister helped us out by buying and delivering to us. Next day I called back and the same answer. It was actually the 3rd day before they gave us water, 2 X 1 litre bottles. I emailed the CEO of Northumbria and also sent in a letter of complaint and to date no replies to either.
Best of luck getting your water delivered, but make sure you have a supply in the house just in case.

George, that is terrible, having no water for three days! I hope you do get a reply not to mention some satisfaction. We are very lucky here in Scotland and very rarely have water stoppages, although sometimes they do it with electricity but the last time it was high winds which were the cause of the stoppage, lines down, and we were restored within the hour thus stopping all my freezer stuff from going off. Please come back and tell us what the reply was, or if you do get the chance to escalate matters, let us all know if you obtained satisfaction....if not, challenge the CEO to a duel (sorry, reading a novel set in 1599 at the moment, and I am getting carried away with the swashbuckling language used!)
