Brighthouse

After being without laptop for sometime I am back online! Yay!

My washing machine and fridge also packed in the other week, and I am just not in a position to fork out for these things. I looked up Brighthouse and read through their web site and thought it looked pretty good. I Googled them, and read loads of horror stories (interestingly, mostly from people who had fallen behind on payments!). I like to use Google as a guide, but ultimately I like to find out things for myself. I went in to the local store and spoke to a bloke in store, and ended up signing up to both items I needed. They were extremely friendly and efficient. One thing that had been holding me back before I went in was that I thought their interest rates would be really high, but at 29.9% it is the same as (to name a few) Argos card, Barclaycard Initial, and Debenhams store card. I also didn't really believe the stuff they had would be any good, but it is all brand name products. I have had a great experience with them, and would recommend that if you find yourself in a similar position to at least go in and speak to them. Don't go by all the horror stories, people rarely share good experiences on the type of forum you find them on.

The interest rate is acceptable but is the actual produt cost not inflated?

I have never heard of Brighthouse, Jo, are they like Radio Rentals? I used to have my washing machine and telly with them for years and always found them very good too.

You buy the product and pay for it on a weekly basis. The company seems to be doing well as they sponser tv programmes-Australian soap I think.

Yes you do pay higher prices for obtaining the goods but when your not in a position to buy them as we are, on benefits, they are the only way to get the things you need. I have used them for the last four years and found that most of the time they are a good company and provide a good service for those who are short on money for items that richer people can just go out and buy.

The prices aren't inflated too badly - it depends on what you are looking at. The cash price of the washing machine I got would be £350, and in Currys it's £299. Like Lynn says, they are great for people who don't have many options.

They don't seem to exist in the highlands, Jo....but glad they do, for if like me you are poorer, they must be a huge help to you and stop you getting into too much debt.

I think the min plus with Brighthouse is they are cheaper than catalogues like Littlewoods and they have stores where you can look at various products and actually talk to people face to face.I'd be writing for a week to talk about all the problemw we had in the past with catalogues and their contact centre customer advirors.Maybe they have got better in recent years.Anyone got any recent thoughts.

i know people that use them the hidden charges add a small fortune onto the final price they make you get insurance on the item your buying until the item is paid for this ends up costing a fortune avoid them unless you cant go else where

If you have home insurance you don't pay the additional cost. When I went, there were not hidden costs. They were very upfront about everything. I am maybe just lucky with the staff in my local store.

I still think people here are missing the point that for many people out there, including myself it is the only affordable way to get the items we need hence why so many people use it.
