BEWARE BOGUS CALLERS

The heading says it all. Tonight i have recieved 3 calls 1 on the house phone and 2 on my mobile. Each call said they were from Sky Tv and that they had a deal on to protect my Sky equipment. These peole have your name and full address, but, and this is a big but, SKY TV DO NOT USE A COMPANY TO SELL COVER FOR SKY EQUIPMENT. IT IS A SCAM.
Please do not give any time to these callers hang up on them. If you want to get even with them have a whistle by your phone and as soon as they start to give you the script, blow the whistle hard into the mouth piece. It is painful and see how they like having their time peace and quiet spoilt.

Bogus Text Messages now.
Yes a tect message just came through on my mobile.
"The recnt accident you had could be worth £3500, text back to stop further texts or to speak to an advisor" Text back at your peril as it will cost you nearly £2 and it all goes to the company who text you. Do Not Reply

I have just had 3 phone calls and 2 text messages saying exactly the same as you George. Where do they get your number because only close friends and family have my mobile number, what a con.

Hi Sugarpuff, your question about how they got your number has been a topic on this site for a wek or two now and we would be grateful if you could list all the survey companies you have registered with as I believe that some of them are selling on our details and only by compiling a list of all survey companies that we YSP panelists use may we find a common name.

Did you opt out of your number going into the directory, i think it was early last year, when mobiles went into the phone book unless you called your provider and opted out?

I did not know anything about a mobile number directory.

Sugarpuff, it was not a telephone directory for mobile phones, it was a directory of all numbers as used by all these telephone directory companies. Your mobile number will be with 1181118, 118500 etc etc.
Mind you I opted out and still get these calls. So much for the telephone preference service.

Today I became very concerned. This morning I recieved a phone call at 09.30 from, what I was lead to believe was Health in the Community. They asked a lot of questions about my health and then I started to get suspicious when I was asked my age. I said "I thought you had my details in front of you", "so you should know my age". The phone went dead. What on earth did they want. Has anyone else had this call, or am I alone, for now.

hello, myself had an email sent to my inbox, that was so convincing to be a payment to paypal and there was a link at the bottom to click on to report it if this is not correct, unfortunatley they took all my bank details and took £200 out of it, so there is so much of it happening.

Oh Donna, that is horrendous. unfortunately I dont think there is anything payPal can do for you as you very honestly say you clicked on the link to say if not correct, technically you have given authorisation of the transaction.
Is there any other details you can give us. Do you still have the original email, if so cut and past the email into the comment box and any further details so we may be able to stop any other person being conned.

Why I like surveys: They are fun, interesting and lucrative, not to mention the fact that they can lead to amazing things!

My husband regularly gets emails of that nature and immediately forwards them to Paypal's fraud department. I will see if I can get you the email address. Also, I would speak to Paypal, they are really good at settling any disputes or problems, very reputable.

Donna that is very sad. Its awful when these things look so convincing and authentic, but you know, take heart from the fact that the best of us get taken now and again. Lets face it they are very experianced con artists

I've had fake emails from paypal like this. I tend to immediately delete them as I am so cynical. I get them all the tine involving so called bank accounts that I am supposed to hold or about credit card accounts I hold. All go in virtual dustbin. Donna it's a shame you got caught out as they can be convincing.

Paypal will only ever write to their customers with their full name, not 'Dear Customer' as so many of these spam emails do. I hope you have been in touch with Paypal to see if they can do anything for you Donna.

We all hate bogus callers, they always phone / call at the wrong time. (Actually there is never a right time).
I like whocallsme.com http://whocallsme.com/ If the caller has left their number, you can check out other callee's experiences, and maybe have an insight into which company called them.
I also hate door to door callers. I do have a sign on display, but they always choose to ignore it.
How do you deal with them.

I had the Sky Tv one trying to sell me protection for my Sky boxes. I think they had some how got the information from Sky as it was just after we had done an upgrade.
They were extremely persistent and I put them off as all financial decisions here are joint and my Son was not here to discuss it with.
They were persistant enough to wait a few days and then ring back and were bluntly then told that we were not interested as by then I knew it was dodgy.
I also got enormously frustrated at there attitudes as I hate ok at the end of every sentence.
