"I was recently in a restaurant when the waiter brought my soup over. To my surprise the soup already had croutons in it. When I questioned the waiter about this he merely told me to scoop them out, to which I replied it's not the point I should have the choice beforehand, considering my existing opinion of croutons. As soon as you put them in your soup they go soggy, so you may as well just put bread in, croutons are just another culinary gimmick and are pretentious and pointless!"

I'm all for customer choice!
As it was the soup, you could walk out without paying - as long as there's another restaurant nearby!!

I am more than happy to be force fed croutons. i can think of far worse things to be floating in my soup and in this world of ever increasing choice and freedom - i find the mandatory croutons a breath of fresh air. more choice does not neccessarily mean more enjoyment though!

I think that when the waiter takes your order he or she should ask if you would like any extras like croutons and as the saying goes the customer is always right lol
