I am a mother of 2 young children so we are constantly looking for restaurants that accomodate children, we are regular visitors of the local brewers fayre (this is due to lack of other such places, not choice).
Every visit we ask for the childrens food to be brought out first, this is never done sometimes they are left 5 minutes before their meals come out!!! I also dont like the fact there is only an option of bean or peas to accompany their meal! My eldest dislikes both, but loves carrots, sweetcorn, salad and other veg! If I want a salad I have to order a side order and pay extra! Does anybody else have this problem?!

Yes. Do you also find that the childrens food is also far too hot for them to eat? So when their food is brought out (sometimes at the same time as your own) they can't eat it for about 10 minutes until it has cooled. This annoys me even more when mine comes out cold.

I think you need to find a better restaurant Natalie. I appreciate you find it hard to find one, but Brewers Fayre is just a mass market place - I for one would not be seen dead in one ! You cannot expect much there.
There must be more choice, or are you just looking for a cheap place ? You will not get much for your kids for £2.99 !

Some of us enjoy eating out but cannot afford much more than that. Should we suffer from bad service because of it?

I don't think it matters how much you pay for your food, we go to ''cheap and cheerful'' and ''posh nosh'' resturants with our Daughter and always suffer from the same problems, there is far too little choice and when her meal finally comes out (ages after ours) it's always far too hot and she ends up picking at my food instead!

Ok - how about this for an idea !! :) Do not buy your daughter a kids meal, buy her an adults meal, and put half onto your plate ! Ok mabe you get too much but at least your daughter will be happy :)

Try Medeterranean restaurants like la Tasca or Italian restaurants - you can order kids food, or just a starter for them. They tend to expect children there and love them, so they accomodate them much better.

Dear Natalie,
I don't know your area of residence, but if ever
you come around with the children to Enfield area,Enfield Highway. there is a very pleasant family Pub called The Black Horse. You would get lovely meals to fill you up to your throat. For £10.00 a small family can have enjoyable filling meals. I must say that drinks are very expensive. the cheapest pint is £2.70.

Recently open near me is a marstons, known as the willow tree, with a play area outside for children, its great ,but whats inside when the weathers is not to good,or for those whom prefer to sit indoors for whatever reasons,?NOTHING.Yet they do childrens meals, i do feel it is meant to be a family pub,and the food is fine, but more could be done inside to accomadate familys. A small childrens play area would be great, or maybe for older children, they could have puzzle sheets,so children will have something to do,before a meal or after a meal,if the adults want to sit and chat. SO COME ON MARSTONS GET A PLAYAREA INDOORS AS WELL.

Well you get what you pay for - sadly these establishments don’t think that those children of yours will one day be their future customers - I have found a website that says it lists child friendly restaurants - www.childfriendly.co.uk/family-restaurants - give it a go, however, if I take my daughter out I expect good food, good service, however, I also expect to pay for that privilege too!
Good luck -let us know if the website was useful!

You can always provide play materials for your own children. These are restaurants, not creches! We always carried a play box in the car, with crayons, paper, puzzle books etc. And yes, Italian restaurants are great for kids. Also, sharing your own meal with your child. You might also notice that restaurants in Europe don't have play areas for children; it's not necessary as the children have been taught how to behave when they're out and expect to sit at the table with the adults.

Thanks for all the responses!
This is my response to some of the comments
We do also go to other places and always entertain our children with toys or just chatting together about our days! When we do go to Brewers Fayre or similar restraunt/ pubs we always eat our meal together and then all go into the play area! I never treat it like a creche!
My children know how to behave when we go out because we have been taking them from being babies, as I myself was taken out whilst growing up.
I understand about the Europe culture and find that when we eat in Italian/ or Spanish restaurants they are always very family friendly, its the English establishments that are not accomadating!
I also see no problem in going to places with play areas, children after all they learn alot through play and not sitting at a table fingers on lips!
Sometimes its just nice to sit back relax and everybody be happy but I dont think we should have to compromise on quality and customer service, and if this is reflected in the price then I certainly have no problems with paying more

My children to know how to behave, but like alot of children they can all sumtimes get a bit fed up, no matter how well they are brought up, my children use their manners, and know how to behave, but like i said they can get fed up, i dont see restraunents as creches ,but i see family ones to accomadate familys, thats their aim isnt it,but still they sometimes fail to aquire, this .

i constantly complain about adults food being brought out before childrens food. i feel this is common sence but restaurants dont seem to have this. also the kids menu seems to consit of chips sausage fish fingers burger and nuggets not much thought in it. my son prefers meat and veg. This causes problems when out. if i ask for meat and veg on a kids size i still get charged adult prices!!!!! But i have found a restaurant that has better choice and good prices which is the paul pry in eterborough my kids love it.

There really should be special pubs and restaurants then it would mean that adults can have a nice meal and a drink without screaming misbehaved kids running around as if its a playground whilst their parents dont even bat an eye. Its really annoying!!!

I recently went to a pub restaurant with my partner her parents and 4 year old nephew and have regretted it ever since. What once had an excellent reputation is now appalling from start to finish. All five meals were burnt and the kid’s meal was so appalling he filled up on the free salad bar instead! The waitress had little time for our order despite the place being nearly empty. I can only imagine what she was getting up to between orders.
For what came to £65 before drinks, we left rather disgusted.

I went to one last week. The food was nice and hot but it's not a place I recomend if you want a peacefull meal with no kids screaming, shouting and running around. I sat in a corner away from the families but could still hear all the noise as their parents were just letting them run around- there's a play area for them with amusements and tables at the one we went to, but they didn't stay in there. I didn't realise it was like that or I wouldn't have gone.I don't mind families- but I hate it when the kids are shouting and running around all over the place.
