Recently I went to buy an outfit to wear for a special occasion and an assistant was very helpful and told me to wait till the following week to make my purchase as there was to be a promotion with 25% discount.
In another store I wanted to buy some perfume and the young assistant gave me samples with the names of each perfume written on them to take away. She recommended some perfumes that I would never have tried and have since purchased one of them. I really like it very much.
I think training staff properly is very important. If they are knowledgeable about the products and take an interest in the customer it makes shopping a much better experience and gives them more job satisfaction.

If only all shops had assistants like that. Too often staff are too busy talking to friends or texting on their mobiles to take any notice of customers.
I find Tesco were i live in Newcastle Upon Tyne has got to be the worst for its employees standing chatting to each other in the aisles and when approached and asked a question, they look at you as if to say "how dare you interupt".
Thats my bad experiances with shop assistants.
I would love to meet the ones you have dealt with.

I shop at Sainsburys in Chichester and can now say that most of the staff are now my friends, they give great service, know their products and also give me a laugh.

I shop at a Co-Operative store in the Isle Of Man and they have recently taken on new staff.
I have noticed that they have been the ones caught for chatting and on mobile phones.
But older staff, I find, are very polite and helpful and make my shopping quite nice and bearable.
I often leave with a smile on my face.

I was so impressed the other day but an assistant in croydons HMV. I went to buy Ben10 series 1, 2 3and 4 which were £15 each dvd, but he kindly told me to go back the next day as they would be getting a limited edition boxset with all the series consisting of 12 dvds for £40. I went back the next day and brought it, my daughter will be so happy, and i was happy that i was able to buy an outfit with the money i saved :-)

From working in retail for nearly a decade I can honestly say that big companies arnt doing things like this. Its the smaller entrepeneirs that are making staff train well and become more competant at what the consumer would like. In ASDA for instance they would just employ a special company to come in and do the odd bit of cold selling down an isle. They would never dream of teaching their staff to learn specifics like the lady above has recived. I would bet she was in a much smaller store when these things happen.

Its nice to have service where you can have a little help and for them not to try and rip you off for there own benefit. especially with christmas just round the corner, they can help you choose the right presents for family and friends.

I often shop at Somerfields in Cornhill, Aberdeen and they took on a new manager, i had complained that offers were still on offer past the date it should be and i kept all my receipts but i was only overcharged £2.70 or so but manage picked a few costly items in my basket and took me to till and told me it was free plus he gave me £15 of vouchers as a sorry, now that is what i call decent service where a year ago i had complained and was told to get lost, well done somerfields

I go to mcdonalds most days but they always get my order wrong and when I tell the girl on the window of the drivethrough she grabs the food back she has a face like a slapped behind I darent ask for sauce. Not all mcdonalds are the same this is a particular one and one person who shouldnt be working there. I thought it was fashionable to have a smile on your face these days. theres nothing like a bit of polite curtisy.
